2023 Grenache

Rose Ranch

My first varietal Grenache from the certified biodynamically farmed Rose Ranch. When I was offered some fruit from Rose Ranch I immediately agreed. It has such great “terroir” for Grenache, an old riverbed filled with rocks that reminds me a little of what I saw in Chateauneuf du Pape, one of the great places for grenache in France. The long and relatively cool growing season in ’23 has given us a wine with wonderful cherry fruit aromatics, excellent fruit sweetness in the middle palate and a medium bodied wine with gentle tannins. This is the sort of wine that is delightful with pork and richer chicken dishes but can still handle bigger dishes where freshness and fruit is required. To highlight the characters of the vineyard and grape, I’ve used only 10% new oak barrels and have bottled the wine early.
