2021 Syrah

Cuvée Ellen

2021 was a very high-quality year for red wines despite being the second year of drought. Small yields of highly concentrated grapes produced outstanding wines and this wine is no exception. The Ellen Syrah, named after my grandmother Ellen, has evolved into a slightly more elegant style of Syrah which is co-fermented with 3% Viognier which adds some floral notes to the heartier Syrah. The wine is transferred to a 500-gallon oak Foudre after 8 months in smaller barrels to retain more freshness and fruit. All estate grown from the blocks planted in 2014, I expect this to be at its best in another 12 months and will age for another 10 years.
